Position Summary:

Working under the direction of the Manager, Strategic Web Services, the Web Production Specialist will be responsible for content and HTML updates for both www.hopkinsmedicine.org and the Johns Hopkins Medicine intranet site. The position includes the opportunity to contribute to user training and governance, CMS template development, design, and accessibility governance. The individual will work daily with the SiteExecutive CMS system, occasional WordPress, and with other required tools such as Adobe CS4/5 Photoshop.

Education:

A minimum of an Associate’s degree required. Equivalent experience beyond the work experience requirement may be substituted on a 2:1 basis. Requires a minimum of 3 years in a Web authoring environment, maintaining or developing Web sites and working with various clientele and related vendors.

Knowledge

  • Proven, relevant experience in web development with a working knowledge of web technologies. Candidate should exhibit a strong desire for continued learning of web technologies, tools, content management systems, and web development software. The candidate should have basic knowledge and passion to learn and execute the standards W3C, WCAG and to consider SEO and user experience implications of managing pages and developing experiences in the CMS.
  • Working knowledge of Web server technology and the ability to make appropriate hardware and software recommendations.
  • Strong knowledge of Web tactics, best practices, programming languages, technologies, protocols, and tools.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of various Internet programming languages, analytics and trends.
  • Working knowledge of structuring, developing and implementing effective interactive Web sites.
  • Knowledge of database development and some SQL knowledge helpful, Microsoft Excel competence is important.
  • Web accessibility knowledge with the ability to provide guidance to other Web professionals
  • Working knowledge of multimedia design tools including Adobe CC.

Skills:

  • HTML and CSS authoring required, including the ability to write validate HTML markup. Familiarity with Sass/Less a plus, as well as strong understanding of responsive development. A strong candidate will have a solid understanding and interest in web usability and user experience.
  • The successful candidate will have worked with CMS systems. Candidate should have some familiarity with JavaScript and JQuery and with managing web sites within a Content Management System. Experience with design related tools including Adobe Photoshop. Proven team participation and responsibility with regard to technical projects and initiatives in a complex organization
  • Ability to conduct research into emerging Internet technologies. Ability to research, organize and present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language. Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Ability to organize, manage and work within a team-oriented, collaborative environment. The successful candidate will be able to navigate, negotiate and accommodate the needs of a diverse community. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong customer and interpersonal/human relations service skills.
