About The Opportunity


We have an exciting new opportunity on our team for an experienced WordPress Developer & Designer who can easily flex between Technical and Creative tasks and is eager to play a key role in helping us build, maintain and optimize our company websites. If you are a WordPress wizard and love to create graphics and cool web designs we want to see your work!


Duties/Responsibilities


Design


  • Creates original visual media that communicates the desired feeling or message in an engaging and unified way
  • Chooses graphics, clip art, and stock photography, as appropriate; may enhance choices with simple drawings
  • Selects fonts for written copy; produces sample layout for approval by client or other project participants
  • Prepares drafts of design work and provides samples to editorial or other appropriate staff or departments for review
  • Revises projects as necessary based on collaborative feedback process
  • Consults with Marketing Director, and/or other team members as needed on complex or specialized projects
  • Ensure high quality graphic standards and brand consistency
  • Create quality UI/UX mockups and prototypes and present to stakeholders


Development


  • Collaborate across departments to identify and understand new website and application development needs for multiple company websites
  • Plan, execute, and facilitate website and application development projects in accordance with specifications, budget, and timeline
  • Build new sites with a firm understanding of best practices for WordPress templates and themes, especially as they relate to page-building tools and plug-ins such as Divi Builder
  • Conduct website performance tests
  • Troubleshoot and resolve ad-hoc development requests when a site (or a specific element of site) is not working properly
  • Expand, improve, and maintain existing WordPress sites by performing page speed optimizations, overall website speed optimizations, maintaining site back-ups and staging environments, migrating sites and related DNS records
  • Maintain communication with team members and supervisors concerning the direction of the website, any issues discovered, and performance


Other


  • Write functional requirement documents and technical user guides
  • Implement security and data protection mechanisms.
  • Works with website vendors as needed for technical issues and troubleshooting
  • Stay up to date on emerging technologies


Required Skills/Abilities


Design


  • Expert in Photoshop and Adobe Creative Suite or other similar design software
  • Illustrator experience is a plus
  • Understanding principles of user experience in website design
  • Understanding of web accessibility standards
  • Wireframing and prototyping
  • Website responsiveness
  • Branding, photo editing, typography and color theory


Development


  • Expertise in WordPress plugins
  • Strong knowledge in WordPress builders such as Divi and Elementor
  • Ability to determine project scopes and estimates with reasonable accuracy
  • Strong knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS/Sass
  • Strong knowledge of browser testing and debugging skills/technology
  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) principles
  • Comfortable working and strategically testing in a live production environment


Other


  • An ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical and multitasking skills
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance


Education And Experience


  • 3+ years’ experience in Graphic/web design
  • 3+ years’ experience as a WordPress developer
  • In-depth understanding of the entire web development process (design, development and deployment)
  • Understanding of layout aesthetics
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • Significant coursework in Art, Graphic Design, or related disciplines highly preferred
