WordPress Web Developer (Full-time Contract)

Location: Remote / May require some travel to office in Strathroy, ON, CA


Timeline: May-September 2023 (flexible)


Hourly Rate: $25 - $35/hr commensurate with education and experience


Job Details/Project Scope


Under the direction of the Digital Engagement Manager, the web developer will be responsible for transferring our current coded Laravel website to a WordPress website to allow easier maintenance and editing capabilities for our marketing department.


As a local credit union in Southwestern Ontario, we do have an online banking platform linked from our website, however, it is a separate entity. The website in which you will be working on is content based only.


Upon starting, we will introduce you to the team, our brand, and our vision for the website. We will work with you to discuss the most effective course of action and develop a calendar for project milestones to ensure the project stays on track. Our marketing team will work with you to develop the website by providing page layout concepts, navigation structure, page content, desired capabilities and more.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Understanding the current Laravel website architecture, code, supporting platforms, etc.
  • Work with the Marketing department to acquire a WordPress website template/theme and perform a hosting platform transfer
  • Review, understand and discuss Marketing’s desired website aesthetic, architecture, and capabilities
  • Upon starting the transfer, ensure that all necessary hosting, server, and domain certificates are solidified
  • Implement the website transfer/build including architecture, navigation, content, plugins, and tracking
  • Research based plugin recommendations, including understanding of associated risks, cost-benefits, and troubleshooting capabilities
  • Ensure best practices for security, accessibility and search engine optimization are in place
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise with either the Larval or WordPress portion of the project
  • Regular and consistent communication with our marketing team on your innovative ideas and progress

Qualifications

  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Strong PHP skills
  • Experience with WordPress, including understand of architecture, themes, and plugins
  • Knowledge on/experience with Laravel is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of WP Engine, DigitalOcean, and Cloudinary (or similar services)
  • Understanding of web development process
  • Understanding of website security, AODA requirements, and SEO best practices
  • Experience with Google Tag Manager (TMS)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Applicant must be based in Southwestern Ontario with access to reliable transportation
