Wordpress Specialist

The position will help create, gather, review, edit and publish compelling content on High Point University’s website. The Wordpress Specialist will interact regularly with web administrators and department web users to ensure that the HPU website content remains current and relevant, as well as keeping up to date with user experience (UX). The position will perform data analysis in support of current marketing campaigns. The position will also work closely with the Office of Information Technology developing and implementing a usability testing process to ensure that new website applications continue adhering to established guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Experience and Training

  • 4 years of experience with HTML as it relates to WordPress theme. Must also demonstrate experience writing and editing specifically for the web and coordinating, editing and publishing the work of other content contributors; or equivalent combination of education and experience such as journalism, communications or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

  • Proficient work in WordPress multi-site environment
  • Proficient with Google Analytics and reporting tools, to assist with SEO.
  • Solid understanding of HTML and responsive design
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of organizing, writing, editing, and publishing effective web content; information architecture; search-engine optimization; social media; web content management; and web analytics.
  • Strong problem solver
  • Skilled in Adobe Photoshop to size, crop and optimize images for the web.
  • Familiar with social media and third-party APIs
  • Ability to adapt and learn new technologies and web content management tools quickly.
  • Strong Organizational skills when it comes to content, and user experience.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, to work collaboratively with diverse populations and to provide one-on-one and group training for web contributors as a collaboration with the Office of Information Technology.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Work closely with the Interactive Media Manager and AVP of Communication Management to help manage a complete website redesign
  • Improve UX of the entire University website
  • Stay up to date on web design and information architecture
  • Create website/page/blog in an organized fashion based on user requirements
  • Constantly repurposing HPU content for use on web platform
  • Develops working relationships with offices campus-wide to ensure a high level of awareness of their websites.
  • Develop content standards and hold offices accountable for such content
  • Collaborating with the Social Media Specialist on brand awareness on website
  • Position Content based on SEO best practices
  • Maintains positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, students’ parents, faculty, co-workers and managers on website updates
  • Other duties as assigned

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Responsible for maintaining website maintenance & usability
  • Responsible for assisting other HPU staff and faculty members with web related requests and questions
